Barbara Bietz was born and raised in California. She earned a Bachelor's degree and Master's degree in Education at the University of Arizona. She is a member of the Association of Jewish Libraries Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee, a national award that recognizes the best books in Jewish children’s literature. Barbara’s chapter book, Like a Maccabee (2006,Yaldah Publishing) was honored with the Midwest Independent Publisher’s Association Book Achievement Award. In 2007, she was invited to be a part of the Jewish Book Council’s Book Network. Barbara conducts book talks and writer’s workshops for children and adults. She contributes articles and book reviews to Jewish Book World and the newsletter for the Association of Jewish Libraries and writes a monthly column for FamiliesOnlineMagazine.com, an award winning website. She also maintains a blog dedicated to Jewish literature for children. The blog features interviews with authors, editors, and librarians. She has written many educational manuals, and her non-fiction work has appeared in numerous magazines including Young Judean, Doll World, Kite Tales, OH, and Plus. Most recently, Barbara was featured on Jewish Life Televsion.

Barbara lives in Oak Park, California with her husband, kids, and two naughty dogs.
