About Avra
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Winnipeg and have been writing fiction recreationally for years. I won the Fern Shawna Rykiss Literary Award in 1997. In the 1998-1999 season, “The Project”, a play that I co-wrote was produced by Phoenix Productions. In 2008, I proofread for “Canadian Homestead” magazine. Between 2000 and 2008, I’ve had poetry published by The Poetry Institute of Canada, Noble House London, Pen Pushers Publications, American Poets, and several other companies. My poetry has also been published in 3 poetry anthologies, What! a Magazine!, and has been requested for other publication (by Poetry.com, International Society of Poets, etc.) as well as for recording on The Sound of Poetry compact disc collection.
I am currently looking to publish a 50, 000 word Young Adult novel. Summary:
Lissa Long is an average teenager with a love of art and athletics. She lives with her adopted family and her friends in a city called Carline.
Through a mishap on a school ski trip, Lissa meets Tyhr and Pyry, two young men who live in a cave with their guardians, Barak and Harendra.
At first, smitten by Tyhr’s looks and charisma, Lissa is masked to the frightening strength of his passion for her. When she becomes aware of his obsession, Lissa turns to Pyry, discovering in him a kind and true love.
Throughout the story, Lissa notices strange occurances and behaviours surrounding both of her beaus: Odd meteorological changes, rooms holding antique artifacts, and many cryptic words. She learns that Tyhr, Pyry, and those with whom they live with, all have the power to control the weather according to their moods.
As many of Lissa’s relationships grow complicated, Tyhr’s attempts to win her intensify, placing Lissa in grave danger. In the end, the story boils down to the question of who has the best elemental control.
