Dear Alice
Thank you for your e-mail which greatly brightened my morning. I was delighted to hear that you enjoyed my book. As for the ending, you have missed something in a way but you have also put your finger on a weakness in th plot I think. If you remember, Fin does actually set out to find Ulla but what turns him back is a sort of vision he has that the various forces that have reached into his life and interfered with it will always be liable to do that, so there is no point in going back to Ulla till he understands them well enough to be able to escape them, and to do that, he needs to go to the Golden College and find out about the Comet's Child and what it means to be him. But there is another reason, outside the story as it were, and that is that I wanted him to go to the Golden College anyway, as that is where the story as I originally thought of it begins. In fact, the whole action of the Comet's child was originally meant to be just a few chapters, but it sort of grew... There is meant to be a sequel, indeed a whole series, but I have not been able to persuade my publisher to take it, so I might have to do it as an e-book. But I shall certainly let you know. (And yes, he does get back to Ulla.... Eventually)
all the best from Scotland
