Hey Cllaudia, I would recommend taking a lot of effort and self promoting. Through a website, blog, facebook, jacketflap. Just about anywhere you can participate in a literature community. Publishers rarely put any marketing energy or money into a book unless it is a success, and books don't become a commercial success without marketing. It's a catch 22.

So spending your time promoting your work is the way to go. Some of the people I know who have moderately successful books ( selling 2500 copies or so ) have also focused on local book shops in around where they live, doing readings and promotion in stores.
