Clear Light Publishers publishes high-quality books in the following areas: American Indian culture, religion, and history; Western Americana; Eastern philosophy and religion; U.S. and world history; food and health; environment; and the workplace. In addition to nonfiction, we publish biographies, cookbooks, art books, historical novels, and children’s books relevant to these areas.
We welcome manuscript submissions for books in any of the above categories; however, we encourage you to review our catalog to help you determine whether your book may be appropriate for us.
In order to review submissions effectively, we request that all manuscript materials be submitted with a formal book proposal, which should include the following:
ü a cover letter explaining your motivation and credentials for writing this particular book, as well as why you think it will interest readers
ü a brief summary of the proposed book
ü a table of contents and chapter summaries
ü a brief discussion of the market you envision (who are your readers?), and a list of other published books that may compete with yours, with comments on how your book differs from them
ü a short biography or resume that includes a summary of your previously published work, if applicable, and your impressions of the publishing experience
ü The complete manuscript
ü Examples (or description) of artwork you plan to include, if applicable
We will try to review your manuscript within a week of its arrival. We will return manuscripts that are inappropriate for our current editorial schedule or that we would not be able to market effectively. Manuscripts selected for consideration will be forwarded to our editorial committee for review.
Please include a stamped self-addressed envelope if you wish us to return your material. Do not send any original material. (We do not accept responsibility for the return of any unsolicited materials.) At all times we encourage simultaneous submissions of manuscripts to other publishers.
