The poem is also known as `A visit from St. Nicholas� and it has been written by Clement Clarke Moore in 1822 for his two daughters. `Twas the Night Before Christmas� tells a story about a father who meets St. Nick on Christmas Eve. St. Nicholas had never been associated with a sleigh and reindeers prior to the first publication of the poem in 1823.

Moore�s description of St. Nick helped create Santa Claus as he is thought of today.
`Twas the Night Before Christmas� is still read to children around the world every Christmas. It is also the most published, most memorised and most collected book of all Christmas literature.
