After spending several years on the run--playing poker and cheating his friends, he arrives in Las Vegas in 1959. Using the money he�s skimmed from the Chicago Mob, he buys a casino, Hotel Fandango, on Fremont Street. His gambling and skimming provide a life of luxury.

When Sabrina, the infant daughter he�d left behind in Charleston in 1951, turns eighteen, they meet in Las Vegas. Sabrina returns to Charleston. She finishes law school and moves to Vegas where she helps Alex run his gaming empire. The gambling cheat teaches his only child the tricks of the trade.

They are deceived by the crooked lawyer, Henry Castaneda.
