Maggie one day with intense seriousness, how good do you think people ought to be? I must premise, that the party had returned from Jamaica. It was now summer time again. Maggie was in the Pavilion at Meadow Park, in her old place, intently drawing. Meredith had set her a difficult piece of work; a hand to copy; and admiring the beautiful lines of the drawing, struck with a vehement desire to reproduce them successfully on her own paper, and half appalled at the intricacies of the subject, Maggie was, so Meredith thought, fully absorbed in her work.
