Sally Lightfoot, an incredibly colorful shore crab, is swept out to sea in this brilliantly-colored children's picture book adventure. While on her impromptu expedition she encounters many exotic creatures (such as jellyfish-eating sea slugs), not all of which are friendly. Will Sally make it back to shore?

The Sally Lightfoot Crabs are actually a family of shore-dwelling crustaceans, with several species sharing the same common name("Sally Lightfoot") though having separate scientific labels (the Sally in this book is "Grapsus grapsus"). They are probably best remembered from amateur marine biologist John Steinbeck's book, "The Log of the Sea of Cortez."

A list of the more unusual "neighbors" Sally meets during her voyage follows the story, with interesting facts about each.
