Now, six months later, Nalani is home on the island of Maui to bury her father who police say committed suicide. Contrary to his threat, he's made her a very wealthy woman, but there is little comfort in that. Why would he take his life right on the eve of her move to New York to launch herself as a fashion designer? It seems the ultimate rejection.

While the land represents a beautiful tropical anchor to Nalani, others want it badly. Should she sell it for a bundle to the upscale hotel chain who makes a tantalizing offer, or should she believe the claim of Quincy Paris, the charming Honolulu attorney who says her father contacted the land conservancy he represents? Nalani is attracted to Quincy as a man just as she's attracted to his cause but when it becomes clear to her that her father's death may not be the simple open and shut case it appeared to be, she realizes its up to her to figure out the truth...or die trying.
