This book is a combination of historic and contemporary data, mixed with some anecdotal material which I have gathered in the process of living in Liverpool for the last 70 years, and has subsequently been collected and processed during the last five years .
It describes the history of people and places, the events and dramas which gave to Liverpool, and to this book, the title of `The Gateway to America'. The emphasis will always be on Maritime connections as they are the foundation for most of the connections to, and from, the United States.
