Captain Neil Low- a real-life Seattle police officer- writes about the rainy city of yesteryear with love, confidence, and intrigue. Alan Stewart has grown up since his early shamus days in Thick as Thieves. The only mystery here is why you wouldn't pick up this noirish, hard-boiled book." --DON ROFF- Author of Zombies: A Record Year of Infection.
1940--In the dark misty streets of Seattle, there are no vacations from crime. Alan Stewart finds himself paired once again with the beautiful and dangerous Vera Deward and embroiled in a mystery that's shaking the entire city. This time, a well-known and aging heiress has disappeared. Has she simply departed early for a glamorous honeymoon, taking the train to Minnesota, as her much younger and newly acquired husband insists, or has there been foul play? Alan Stewart and Vera Deward race against the clock, tracking murder suspects through the murky cityscape looking for clues to the heiress's whereabouts. Clues that lead to shady hotels, underground catacombs in Seattle's Chinatown, and to heart-pounding confrontations on fast-moving trains. Can Alan and Vera unwind the enigma in time to save the heiress, or will this mystery elude them?
"Neil Low's Unreasonable Persuasion is a fine example of a writer maturing in his craft. Low's latest story, the mysterious disappearance of a woman we never meet, will keep you turning the pages, but it's the subtleties of Low's writing that will make you pause and think. I suspect that you will wonder about the beginning of Low's book all the way to the end, at which time you are likely to mutter to yourself in surprise as I did, 'I'll be damned.'" --Lowen Clausen, Author of The River, First Avenue, Second and Beyond, and Third and Forever.
"Unreasonable Persuasion is a great detective novel. Set in the 40's the main characters are PIs investigating a disappearance of a family friend. The Seattle setting is refreshing and serves as a great back drop for the unfolding mystery. The main characters, Alan and Vera are fleshed out and interesting, although much of their development relates to the two previous novels I have not read. That said, on the strength of this book and the characters I will be hunting down the first two in the series soon. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries, noir and hard-boiled detective novels. The writer's Seattle police background can be felt in the pages, providing legitimacy to his prose,"--Matt, Good Reads reviewer.
"I grew up in downtown Seattle, Pill and Capital Hills, and about a block East of Westlake and Denny. I really identify with the local of your mysteries. I also loved J.A. Jance's Detective Beaumont for the same reasons. You two authors hit my feelings, Alan in the late 30's, my youth just before the War, and Beau for my adult period. A friend asked me to describe your style and I said "It's like Mickey Spillane had dinner at Tai Tung and lost Mike Hammer somewhere between there and Ivar's where they were headed for late night clam chowder! And now, I gotta get back to Alan and Vera," --Lee, fan, Seattle.
