This timeless tale of a baby who resists going to sleep is charmingly revisited from a bear family's perspective. Though nestled snugly in his basket cradle, Baby Bear remains wide awake. Granny Bear cuddles with him in the big armchair, but succeeds only in singing herself to sleep. Nor do Grandpa or Mama Bear's songs coax Baby's eyes to close. Finally, Papa Bear tucks Baby into a boat and takes him out on the river, where the soothing night sounds--fish bubbling, frogs croaking, otters splashing, an owl hooting--lull Baby to sleep. When the two return to shore, the other bears marvel at Papa's success. Smiling, Papa smugly replies, "I knew the right song."
