More1916 Hardcover Edition published by Grosset & Dunlap Publishers, N.Y., 337 pages in Good condition. Text has some marks but these are along the borders and not on the text, there are no rips, tears, creases, loose or bent pages. No Dust Jacket, red boards have wear along the corners and the spine with a tear on the bottom and top of the spine, but the Spine is firm with all pages firmly attached. Book has terrific illustrations by noted illustrator, J. Allen St. John (he is the most famous of "Tarzan" illustrators and the first to illustrated Burroughs books). I actually recently read this book (so I know it holds up well) and I found it enjoyable if somewhat dated in areas such as Burroughs depiction of the "savage blood-thristy natives", the man-eating apes, and the helpless Jane who seems to always need saving from the villainous Russian "Rokoff" and his heinous pirate cohorts. Otherwise, it was entertaining like watching one of those old Tarzan movies or some 1950s TV "Jungle Jim" episode. The book did lend itself well to the movie serial of the era in that each chapter ends with a cliffhanger. This was Burrough third Tarzan novel, a very popular series of books at the time and actually right into the 1960s. Vintage Hardcover with Classic Illustrations and plenty of cliffhanger suspense (all that is missing is Johnny Weissmueller and the popcorn).
