MoreA wonderful children's book about "Sanctuary Park" supposedly near Estes Park, CO. Illustrations by C.W. Gauss, with a September 1, 1931 forward by Marianne Gauss. A book about animals who can live in a sanctuary without guns. The introduction begins: "Away up in the Rockies, northwest of Denver, in the Estes Park region, Uncle Sam has provided a place of safety for wild people --- the deer, the bighorn, the rock chuck, and the rabbit. Even the persecuted bear and the sometimes thieving racoon may rest there. This is the place which is called, in these pages, 'Sanctuary Park.'
Visitors to this park must leave their guns at home. If a mountain lion is accused of killing sheep, people carry their complaints and suspicions to a government hunter, who will try to get at the facts, and if necessary put an end to the career of the killer.
In the course of years, the news has spread among the wild things that no guns are fired in Sanctuary. The animals seem to know just where this happy place begins --- and they are wonderfully friendly."
