French professor Pierre Aronnax joins the crew of the Abraham Lincoln, a ship on a mission to find and destroy a sea monster. The vessel is soon sunk by the creature, which is actually a submarine called the Nautilus, and only Aronnax, his servant Conseil, and Canadian harpooner Ned Land survive. They are taken aboard the Nautilus by Captain Nemo, who introduces them to many undersea wonders, from the lost city of Atlantis to the explosion of an underground volcano. Although they are delighted by all they see, Aronnax also realizes they are being held prisoner, and he must plan a treacherous escape through icy waters.
