Book Description
In the Gullah tradition, as in West African heritage, children are given "basket names," or nicknames, at birth. Little Muddy Waters was so named because of his pretty, dark complextion. The author's real-life cousin was called Muddy Waters because the midwife had to cross a muddy river to attend his delivery.
