These stories teach the three different ways of making a long vowel in story and musical format. The Circle of Five deals with the five long vowels that say their own letter names (as in: me, no, she, kind). They want to be reliable, independent and responsible. In Bossy Ellie Learns a Lesson, the Animals teach Ellie that while they are happy she is the "Boss" ("e" is the catalyst for the long vowel sound), she needs to learn to talk to them nicely (as in: made, hide, mole). The Polite Partners take turns making long vowels ("You make the sound this time, and I'll make it next time," as in rain, read, boat). Each story and song lends itself to valuing lessons (being responsible, talking politely, taking turns).
