Updated in response to the 2000 revision of the National Curriculum, this text explores ways in which curriculum balance and coherence can be achieved and a rich and exciting primary history curriculum retained, while not underestimating the demands of literacy, numeracy and ICT. Case studies reflect current interests and show how links can be made with the National Literacy and Numeracy Frameworks and with ICT. The author discusses restructuring the curriculum, research into children's historical thinking and the links between theory and practice. Students, teachers and history co-ordinators are encouraged to reflect, evaluate and develop their own practice in relation to their locality and the particular needs of their school. Help is also provided on planning and carrying out case studies and action research.
