With his physical abilities came honor and fame-highlighted by a gold medal in the 400-meter dash at the 1924 Paris Olympics. But it was another race that really mattered to Eric Liddell-the race of life described in the book of Hebrews: "Let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith." At the height of his athletic fame, Eric Liddell traded his track shoes for hiking boots, taking the gospel message to the vast land of China. His life there was cut short, but the shadow he cast was long-and millions today still find challenge from his faithful example.
