Sarah Doherty was a devout Roman Catholic and a shining example of her faith, when she was sent to work for a Protestant widow. Her story is one of questioning, learning, and how she moved from seeking to be proven right, and the Protestants wrong, to an open heart for what the Word of God had to say to her. Her actions led to cruel punishment, excommunication and persecution. Her story is one of love for her fellow man and devotion to her Lord, even through great changes in life.

Also contains the story of Leila Ada, a well-educated Jewish woman who sought to understand the Scriptures. She began to read the New Testament in order to prove to herself how misguided the Christians were. Not believing that Old Testament prophecy was fulfilled in the person of Jesus Christ, she set out to prove the Christians wrong; her life is changed as a new faith in Christ overcomes her.

Finally, the story of Thirza, who crept into the back rows of a church meeeting to unobtrusively listen to the sermon in a Christian church. God's Word penetrated her soul, and though entering into heated persecution from her father, the Lord faithfully guided this young woman into an ever-stronger faith.
