Stories of gunfighters,bandits,cowboys and Indians have been told so often they have stopped being just stories and become legends. Figures such as Wyatt Earp, Geronimo and Billy the Kid are household names. Thanks to Gordon Rowe, now people can add the name of Marshal Dan Hactus to the list of western heroes. On a hot,dusty day in the town of Pecos City, outlaw Cactus Jack rides into town with a chip on his shoulder. He wants to fight Marshal Dan Hactus and he won't take "no" for an answer. Marshal Dan has no choice but to face Cactus Jack and what he comes up with to outsmart this nasty villain is not what Cactus Jack expects. "Showdown at Pecos" is a wonderful story about how to face violence with non-violent solutions. Its message is especially powerful in this day and age when more young people are turning to guns and violence to act out their aggression. Accompanied with Rowe's wonderful text are some magnificent illustrations by Scott Cambell. The bright colors and vivid detail of the cheracters bring Cactus Jack, Marshal Dan Hactus and Pecos City to life. "Showdown at Pecos" is an excellent children's story that the whole family can enjoy for years to come.
