Come spring, he invites them to help drive a herd of cattle across the barren plains from Montana to the foothills range country of western Canada.

The trip is wild and dangerous: the cowboys they ride with are spirited, independent men; the Blackfoot Nation controls the country they cross; and the foothills are riddled with desperate outlaws, ready to strike without mercy. Jamie and Kate have to adapt to the fierce terrain quickly, devloping skills and determination to return from the foothills alive.

Set against a background of gripping Western and Native history, Ambush in the Foothills is the story of two young people whose courage and ability are tested to their extreme limits. The book is illustrated with photographs of the period showing the people who lived in the West, their work and their ways of life.
