SAM'S SECRET NOTEBOOK NO 1 KEEPERS OF THE SECRET E.H.JONS Secrecy is paramount to Sam. Just the thought of his new clandestine mission leaves him buzzing with excitement and with a zingy flush of energy. He must remain calm...at least to the outside world. If only the weekend would come sooner; without inquisitive eyes watching his every move, he would be able to spy out the movements of the shadowy and strange figures slipping mysteriously out of the supposedly empty house opposite. Together with his companion - Jack, his dog, he eventually finds the perfect hideout achieving maximum coverage of the front of the derelict house; to watch the bizarre goings on. The tension is palpable and at times becomes almost unbearable, but after the first failed `spying' attempt he slips away to reconsider his options and hatch a plan for his `master agent' return. Sam's determined to be famous, even notorious: admired for his spying skills as well as his treasure hunting. Sam writes everything down in his top secret note book. In this he shares with his reader some of his tips and tricks - along with his thoughts and insights he has learned along the way. Unable to contain his excitement he, in a moment of madness, shares the details of his quest with two friends; Ami and Jai ; his best friend Peter's sisters. Astounded at what has been going on in their very own neighbourhood, they willing join him. So they solemnly swear to remain silent about his, and now their, secret mission. The three friends and Jack have to go through their days almost unnoticed - which is more difficult with: nosey parents, nosey sisters and brothers, nosey neighbours, in fact nosey everyone! But they are ready to execute their plan. They leave late that very afternoon; skilfully and silently creeping into the grounds, they stop almost pressed along the inside walls of the garden of the house until they are sure nobody is watching. Then slowly, one by one, they begin to make their way farther into the unknown... Master story tellers they must become: relaying tales of how their days are filled with football and walks with Jack - anything but the truth! This adventure is fraught with danger as they discover, through an accident, a covered entrance to a network of underground tunnels which they are convinced will lead them into this weird ram shackled house. Clawing with their bare hands, they find it an almost impossible task to make their way through the age old detritus - but they must achieve their goal; finding and claiming hidden treasure. They summon all possible courage as they face these dark, damp, dangerous and eerie spaces. Escalating tensions spark arguments and blame between the three adventurers: the sense of something, or someone else, close by in the tunnels following them, unleashes fear and provokes thoughts of escape. They stop : it stops. Almost at the point of desperation, with their nerves spiralling into panic, they twist and turn the handle of the final door and fall in a heap, on top of each other, inside the house at last. The friends joint determination ; to be rich, famous, and most importantly be mentioned in the papers, drives the three on, against the odds, to find the mountain of treasure dreamed of for so long. But suddenly, without warning, the situation turns back on them. Not just about the treasure but also concerning an unworldly challenge for all three of them. One thing is clear: if they accept this challenge they will become the `Keepers of the Secret'. Join Sam and his friends, and Jack, in this secret mission; feel the twists of fate; draw warmth from the humour and cheer from the bonds of friendship as they deepen.
