This is the first book I've read written by Sharon Draper and I enjoyed it a lot. It is the compelling story of sixteen-year-old Jericho who desires to be a member of an elite community service group known as The Warriors of Distinction. To Jericho's delight he is invited to join the group and with his fellow pledges begins the initiation process. Jericho quickly comes to realize that the price of becoming a Warrior of Distinction may be too high but he doesn't back out due to his loyalty to his fellow pledges who have all taken an oath that they all succeed or none of them succeed. I was taken by surprise by the ending.
