He realized the stories-memories-some going back sixty years, were as much a part of his life as when they happened. As Edward de Bono wrote, "A memory is what is left when something happens and does not completely unhappen." Bookman isn't writing about the past-the history of others is the past. "I was wrestling with, explaining to, raging, laughing, crying at and-most importantly-trying to understand myself, now." We don't know if he succeeds. But the blood, the anger, the laughter and the passion reverberate on every page in this extraordinarily powerful book.
