Traveling With Genie And Me is a thought provoking adventure story, illustrated and written in a series of poetic verses that focus on the magic in the real world as well as in our imagination. It begins with a sleepy child in bed having a scary dream. The thinking of Aladdin's magic lamp, the child discovers his own bedside lamp within which there exists a special Genie, since with "a flick of a switch darkness can be turned into light." Together they travel on the shag rug lying on the bedroom floor which with imagination becomes animated and flies like a plane.

Seeking adventure, they start out in the backyard with pets. From there to a farm to interact with farm animals, farm workers and other farming activities. The fun-to-read poetic verses are directed primarily at fourth grade children but are appropriate for people of any age. They focus on the wonderful things we take for granted in the real world but which can seem quite magical. Genie emphasizes positive attitudes towards work and study, while presenting practical environmental perspectives, which should provoke discussions between young readers and their adult mentors.

Each page contains versus relevant to computer-assisted illustrations that are either photos or sketches. Page 11, about cows and their milk, is displayed as a sample. Other subjects with their own pages include cats, goldfish, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, chickens, ponds, gardens, Indians and fossil dinosaurs.
