Ultimately he spent more than 25 years eluding the U.S. Army, which sent 5,000 soldiers to hunt him down.

Ralph Moody's first and most famous book was Little Britches, based on his childhood experiences on a Colorado ranch. He wrote nearly 20 others after, primarily biographies and histories. Moody died in his native New England in 1982.
