"Thank Heaven I got that message down to Tom!" he thought as he stumbled along with the half sobered jackies. Then he chuckled. "So I'm batman to the colonel. Well, I might have gone up a deal higher," with a glance at the yardarm of a vessel out in the stream. "It 'll be a roundabout way home, but perhaps I 'll get there all the safer.
