4.5stars Jaden and Max Jones are adventurers who travel around the world, usually with their Uncle Teto, a renowned animal biologist. On this trip, the boys are going to Tasmania. A disease called the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumor Disease has put the devils on the endangered list. Uncle Teto has been working on a serum to cure the disease and needs to test it on an infected devil to see if it works. While Uncle Teto gives a speech on the subject, the boys will head into the jungles of Tasmania to capture an infected devil. With all the brothers’ experiences gained in their travels, this is the first time they venture into a jungle as dangerous as the Tasmanian jungle. I liked the fast action in this story. Not once did I want to put the book down. The boys go through some amazing experiences to get a Tasmanian devil for Uncle Teto. At one point, I wondered if they could actual capture one these quick animals. Max, the older brother, is the one normally in the thick of things with his Uncle. Fashion conscious Jaden is the ever-energetic photographer. In Tasmania, alone on an adventure for the first time, the boys must use skills they did not know they had and count solely on each other. The jungle in Tasmania is unforgiving, with many dangers. Capturing an ill Tasmanian devil seems, at times, to be their easiest task. Max and Jaden are lovable characters. They act like real-life brothers the way they bicker one moment then back each other up the next. Young boys eight years-of-age and older will love this adventure, as will most girls. The Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumor is a real disease causing very real harm to the devils. Unlike in the story, there is no cure, at the present. Tiptoe Through Tasmania is the first in Ms. Anderson’s Around the World Adventure Series. Each book has Max and Jaden in another exotic location, with another animal on the verge of extinction. With each purchase of this book, part of the proceeds will be donated to the “Save the Tasmanian Devil Appeal.” In addition to a great story, you get to help the Tasmanian devils and their plight. . The next adventure will take Max and Jaden to Indonesia in pursuit of the Komodo dragon, the largest monitor lizard in existence. We hope to have a review of Inch Over Indonesia very soon.
