This is the biography of Dr.Elma Gozalez who, as a child, was a migrant farm worker with her family in Texas. She did not start school until she was nine and even then she often had to leave school to pick crops in the fields. Never giving up and with the help of her family, she moved "one step at a time" until she completed her education, earned a Ph.D. in cellular biology, and became an eminent scientist in charge of her own laboratory at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
