This book is part of a series designed to encourage young children's interest in the past. It shows the styles of dress and architecture of the period. The text unravels the human adventure from prehistoric times to today's exploration of space. It tells the story of human development from the earliest times, when nomadic cave dwellers roamed the frozen landscape hunting for animals to kill and eat. Then came the discovery of fire and the use of flint tools. Gradually, wild animals were domesticated and the first farmers emerged, bringing a more settled existence. The Bronze Age produces stronger, more durable tools, and a flourishing system of trade. But the most important developments were to come - the wheel, and writing. The book closes with the civilization of Ancient Egypt, its pharaohs, pyramids, slaves and mummies.
