Cross-number puzzles are ideal activities for reinforcing basic mathematical concepts in the classroom--especially with gifted students and those who work well on their own. There are 45 cross-number puzzles in this Crossmatics. Each puzzle includes a crosswork-type grid and a series of descriptions for across and down positions. A typical description reads, "Eight times 9-across" or "Square of 10-down". The answers students write in the grid are numbers--not words. Compared to traditional math exercises, cross-number puzzles challenge students to apply higher-level thinking skills. As students solve such problems, they may realized facts about the four operations that were never apparent to them before. Crossmatics includes a section on problem-solving strategies and tips on how to solve the puzzles in the book. The cross-number puzzles in Crossmatics are arranged according to three "challenge" levels. Challenge, Super Challenge, and Monster Challenge. Students can challenge themselves to complete increasingly difficult puzzles--or challenge their classmates.
