MoreTimber's End is an impressive and engaging story for children. A charming and amusing story in which a whole cast of woodland creatures are the main characters. Foremost of these is Mole, a happy and contented creature who lives life at a relaxed and unhurried pace. It is a world where Mole enjoys the fresh air and daily excitement of garden life. More than anything Mole loves his friends with whom he shares the garden. Oak Tree is Mole's very best friend and they while away the hours chatting and watching the world go by. Other residents and friends of the garden are Tiny, Pixie and Mr Bumble who all enjoy the still and idyllic surroundings they live in. The peace and tranquillity is disrupted when intrigue enters the lives of the residents in more ways than one.
`Mole scampered through the tunnel leading from his home with the echo of banging pots pursuing him. It was a welcome stillness that enraptured him as he surfaced. Slowly he walked over to Oak Tree. Mole never ceased to stand back in adoration on seeing Oak Tree with the sun filtering through his leaves creating shadowy forms upon his magnificent trunk.'
Through vivid description and assured characterisation the younger reader is able to engage with a book that is enlivening, involving and above all as enjoyable as rolling in the grass and scratching your tummy.
