The book examines the life and times of Galileo, tracing his career as mathematician, astronomer and physicist, and exploring the importance of his work for future generations. Galileo was born in Italy at a time when all scientific thought was based on the teachings of the Ancient Greek philosophers. His constantly-enquiring mind rejected scientific findings which had not been proved by experiment, and he showed that the Greeks' findings were wrong, although it was many years before his work was officially acknowledged. This book sets out to show how, through this method of testing experimentally and then analyzing the results of his findings, Galileo laid the foundation for all future scientific work.
