The subject matter is difficult: no one wants to imagine a best friend dying. Warner conveys Nana's deterioration (and Cady's reaction to it) in a welcome, straightforward, and honest manner, and she does so with such warmth that the real point of this story never gets lost. Sort of Forever is not a morbid novel about death. Instead, Warner has written a joyful celebration of friendship that knows no bounds.
