Merino is a dramatic saga spanning two continents and more than three hundred years. In 1500, on the Spanish plains of Extremadura, Luis saves the lamb whose descendants will be transported will be transported to South Africa two hundred year later. In 1789, Louis van der Laek petitions his hero, Colonel Robert Gordon, for the sheep which will ensure the future of his cripple father's farm. In 1820 after arriving in Algoa Bay, Jane, the independent young English girl, comes to learn how much her new country has to offer her, and in 1836, Louis, Jannie and Kleinjan realise that bravery comes in many different forms. In the 1980's unfortunate circumstances force Louisa's father to reassess his relationship with his daughter and his view of the world.
