"Challenge Science" is the Key Stage 2 component of the Blackwell Science 5-16 programme. It uses an investigative approach and is based on the programmes of study for National Curriculum Science. The theme was developed in association with a group of advisors and classroom teachers and has undergone trials in classrooms across the country. The activity cards use illustrations to stimulate observation, planning and discussion, and are designed to lead to classroom work using real specimens and readily available equipment. The pack includes a teacher's guide, a ring-bound book, which contains notes on how each card relates to the National Curriculum target, suggestions on how to integrate and use information technology, background science data for the non-specialist techer, an assessment and record-keeping system, and a topic index.
