Calliope says she's safe at home plate, but Noreen says she's out, and since she's the referee, what she says goes-not even Calliope's best bribe can get her to change her mind. Calliope's determined to make friends with this amazing person. And of course, when a girl like Calliope sets her mind to anything, it's bound to happen.

As their friendship blossoms, the two girls realize that, despite some obvious differences, they have a lot in common. Including a love for Captain Tweakerbeak, Noreen's African Grey parrot. Calliope has never seen such a wonderful bird-it's exactly the kind of pet her father would want her to have. And since she's convinced he's watching over her like a cloud of mist or a friendly ghost, doesn't that mean Captain Tweakerbeak should live with her? Noreen will never miss him . . . will she?
