Ten-year-old Chloe Wendleton moves into an old Victorian mansion in Bucks County, PA with her grandfather, her dog Killian and her cat Isis. She immediately sees two ghosts who appear to her throughout the house. She also hears the ghostly crying of a child. When she finds an article in an old newspaper about the disappearance of the Van Hise children, who vanished fifty years ago from the very house in which she now lives, she realizes that these are the two ghosts that have been appearing to her.

Chloe is determined to find out what happened to them. With the help of her two best friends, Maya and Will, the children soon discover what really happened to the Van Hise children, and why they are still in the house after fifty years.
