Henry Morton Stanley

Book Description
Henry Morton's Stanley's life began unhappily. Born John Rowlands, he was sent to a workhouse when he was only six years old. There he was so badly treated that he ran away, earning a living as best he could. At age 17 he sailed to America as a cabin boy. In New Orleans, John Rowlands befriended the man who adopted him and gave him his new name. As Henry Morton Stanley, he began a happier life.
