Developing a sense of history lies at the heart of the History National Curriculum. "A Sense of History" uses a combination of narrative and unusual sources to tell good stories. It invites teachers and pupils to explore the past and to tap into the lives and feelings of the men and women of the time. "A Sense of History" should also encourage pupils to make their own judgements based on the evidence they have and should give them confidence to debate their findings. Each page is laid out with activities and assignments and key information boxes are highlighted. Maps, contemporary illustrations and artefacts are used throughout. A teacher's guide accompanies each pupils' book giving practice advice on implementing the National Curriculum and there is one pupils' book and one teacher's book for each core study unit, so providing a complete package covering the Attainment Targets and Programmes of Study for Key Stage 3.
