Food for a Hungry World is a new title in the Science and Our Future series, a collection of accurate, up-to-date and relevant books on a range of scientific topics for students in Australian secondary schools. Food is a complex and wide-ranging topic. As well as being one of our basic needs for survival, food forms the basis of a major global industry. In some societies, certain foods have particular cultural significance. In different areas, access to food is unequal and people suffer from starvation. Food for a Hungry World looks at all these issues, and examines the importance of food and basic nutrition, and the changes in food production. It suggests that scientific involvement is leading to improvements in the production of food with the development of new technologies, and that we have better understanding of our environment. This book will be useful to students on a range of science and environmental studies course.
