Seven blind mice are trying to decide what this something is at their pond. Each one takes a turn running around on it and reports back to the group where the next one quickly rules out the previous conclusion. This short and sweet book that can teach a few practical items for young children, and a lead to a discussion with older children. The illustrations are clever in this book. There are seven mice are seven different colors, and each one gets a day of the week. The negative space is black and really makes the colors pop out to the reader. The white mouse gets his turn on Sunday, which is kind of ironic because white usually symbolizes truth, and Sunday is recognized as a day for Christians to honor God whose truth they believe in. As the mice are discovering this creature only parts are shown and then are turned into what the mice think it is in that mouse’s color. The collage technique is used and the elephant seems to be kind of Eric Carle style. On every interpreted creature there is a different texture which visually mixes it up. The snake is kind of scaly looking, the pillar is rough looking, and the cliff has a rocky, bumpy look.
