Ulaq travels across the tundra to find out, and discovers that everyone sees them differently. To Seal, they look like the sun shining on the backs of huge schools of fish. To Wolf, they're the campfires of distant hunters. To Caribou, they're swaying ghosts. Ultimately, Ulaq decides that the northern lights were put in the sky simply to light up the long, dark night with their magic and beauty.
