Following the recommendation by the Key Stage 3 Strategy for use of 10-15 minute lesson starters, "Hodder English Starters" is a flexible resource bank offering a wealth of ideas for Key Stage 3 teachers. This comprehensive set of starter activities will introduce, extend or revise the skills specified in the Framework of Objectives for Year 9. Each starter provides clear, step-by-step notes for the teacher to follow, containing helpful explanations of linguistic features. "Hodder English Starters: Word and Sentence Level Year 9" addresses: all the word level objectives in the Framework of Objectives for English in Year 9; all the sentence level objectives in the Framework of Objectives for English in Year 9; and, revision of the points which are most likely to prove critical on the day of the test, covering pupils' most frequently expressed concerns about the test and the most common reasons for falling below the Level 5 borderline. The book builds on previous starters present in the Year 7 and Year 8 "Hodder English Starters", finding new ways to anchor and improve the skills that are revised in the Year 9 Framework. Teacher guidance is followed by photocopiable/OHT materials and activities, providing the teacher with all the resources required for that particular starter.
