Hi Everyone! I'm Jana Laiz author of Weeping Under This Same Moon, Elephants of the Tsunami, and co-author of "A Free Woman On God's Earth" The True Story of Elizabeth "Mumbet" Freeman, The Slave Who Won Her Freedom.
My first book, "Elephants of the Tsunami" is the true story of eight amazing elephants that saved many people from drowning in the South Asian Tsunami disaster of 2004. I'm really proud that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book goes to Tsunami relief, as well as Katrina relief. "Weeping Under This Same Moon" is a YA novel and is the winner of ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year Award fro 2009. It is an International Reading Association Notable Book 2009, and was just selected to be the featured novel in St. Croix Valley Minnesota's Valley Reads Program. It is the fictionalized true story of two young women, one a Vietnamese refugee or "Boat Person", the other, an angry American high school student, whose paths intertwine dramatically altering the course of their lives.
"A Free Woman On God's Earth" is the true story of an amazing African woman, a slave, who had the courage to speak what was in her heart and sue for her freedom, changing the course of history.
