Description:
CALABAZO, "The Dwarf of Uxmal" by Daniel Lizzama
There was an old woman, whom the whole town referred to as “Chuchul”, who lived in a hut where the finished pyramid now stands. This old woman was a witch who one day went into mourning because she did not have any children. One day, the Mayan gods gave her a gift, which was a cocoon. She found it on the edge of an artesian well, wrapped it in cloth and placed it in a corner of her small hut. Every day she went to look at this cocoon until one day it hatched and a small creature, closely resembling a child, came from the magical egg.
Chuchul was delighted and called the baby her son. She provided him with good care and soon he was walking and talking like an adult. He never did grow up and she was very proud of her son. One day she told him that he would become the great King of Uxmal.
This animated film received an honorable award at the 11th Exhibition of The International Film Festival of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. The copyrights on the Mayan character "Calabazo" have been assessed to have a property value of over 15 million dollars by the National Banking and Securities Commission and the National Rural Credit Bank. The movie was directed and written by Daniel Lizzama.
