My latest book-- and my "passion project"-- is my new biography of Buddy Holly, the only complete biography of the rock 'n' roll genius aimed mainly at teens and tweens. Feb. 3, 2009 marks the 50th anniversary of "the day the music died", when the world lost three bright young stars, Buddy, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson (the Big Bopper). I wrote my book to make sure that Buddy Holly, who influenced every rock 'n' roll star who came after him, and his stirring music are remembered by current and future generations. My book is OH BOY! My YA novel BETSY AND THE EMPEROR (Simon & Schuster/McElderry Books) is in development as a movie with Al Pacino attached to star as Napoleon Bonaparte. The book is published in l4 languages and is a New York Public Library Book for the Teen Age and an ABA/Book Sense Pick for Teens. Another recent book is MR. LINCOLN'S BOYS (Viking, 2008), illustrated by Bagram Ibatoulline. It's a picture book aimed at ages 6 up. Abraham Lincoln's bicentennial will be celebrated in 2009.
