I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and have loved books all my life—as a child, my favourite place in the world was the Highlawn branch of the Brooklyn Public Library. I've worked in children’s publishing since 1980, and was editor-in-chief at Golden Books, New York, before coming to the UK in 1985.
